Is your cat sneezing a lot or scratching himself silly? Then there’s a significant chance that he is allergic to something. The most common symptoms of an allergy are:
Itchy ears and ear infections
Snoring due to an irritated throat
Biting paws/swollen paws
Cats can be allergic to the most peculiar things:
Food / gluten
Trees, grass, fungi and pollen
Fleas and flea-control remedies
Perfume / fragrances
Materials such as rubber and plastic
Obviously you’ll be wanting your cat to make a speedy recovery. Hence the best thing to do is to get rid of the culprit. That said, chopping down an entire tree because your cat has a bad reaction to it is a pretty drastic measure. Other tips include:
Use dust-free, unscented cat litter. Cats can be allergic to the scent.
If dust is the cause of the allergic reaction, then clean the cat’s sleeping place thoroughly at least once a week. Vacuum-clean at least twice a week.
Sometimes it isn’t possible to rid a cat’s environment of a particular substance (consider the tree example), or the allergy will persist long-term. In such cases, you should ask your vet for medication. If your cat is itching a lot, then give omega-3&6 a try.
