Paper bags for organic pet food: our step towards less plastic

At Yarrah, we look beyond what goes into your cat’s bowl. If you choose organic cat food, you probably also wonder: how sustainable is the packaging? That’s why, since 2024, we use paper bags for our smaller pack sizes.

Why do we choose paper bags?

Paper packaging has a lower environmental impact than plastic. In Europe, a large share of paper and cardboard is recycled, while the percentage for plastic is significantly lower. And if paper does end up in the environment, it doesn’t leave microplastics behind.

For us, it’s a logical step. Especially for smaller packs of organic cat food, where paper works well and directly helps reduce plastic use.

A conscious choice for smaller packs

Not every type of packaging is the same. That’s why we choose paper where possible: for our smaller pack sizes. For larger packs, this is not always the best solution yet. We continue to improve in this area.

Our ambition is clear: packaging that aligns as closely as possible with our products and our vision. At the same time, we remain realistic and choose solutions that also work well in daily use.

With our paper bags, we save around 42,000 kilos of plastic every year. A concrete step that makes an immediate impact.

Always improving

As with everything we do, we keep improving. We test, learn and adjust where needed. This ensures our packaging is not only more sustainable, but also practical and reliable.

Not everything is perfect right away. But by making better choices today, we keep moving closer to how it should be.

Why does Yarrah use paper bags for smaller packs?

Because paper is easier to recycle than plastic and doesn’t leave microplastics behind. This helps us reduce our impact step by step.

Are all Yarrah packages made of paper?

Not yet. We use paper for smaller packs. For larger packs, we are still looking for the best solution. All our packaging is PFAS-free.

Are paper bags as good as plastic?

Our paper bags are designed to protect the food properly and be practical to use. At the same time, we continue to improve them.

Can I recycle the paper bag?

Yes, the outer paper bag can go with paper waste, and the thin plastic inner layer can go with plastic waste. Always check your local recycling guidelines.
