10kg packaging back in plastic – a transitional step with a mission
At Yarrah, we believe that every step counts. Not just in what we put in the bowl, but in how we package it too. That’s why, in September 2024, we proudly introduced our new paper bags for dry food: PFAS-free, FSC-certified, and with a removable inner layer. A first in the pet food world – saving around 42,000 kilos of plastic per year.
Paper simply has a lower impact on the planet: it’s recycled more often (83% compared to 40% for plastic), produces less CO₂, and aligns with our ambition to improve pet food step by step. For your pet – and the planet we share.
The reality of pioneering
When you lead the way, you sometimes run into challenges.
With our 10kg bags, we found that the current technology isn’t quite ready to fully support our paper-based solution. The heat-sealing process turned out to be a hurdle: the paper exterior couldn’t handle the level of heat required by the inner layer. The result? Tearing, open seams, and a risk to product quality. And let’s be honest: that’s anything but sustainable.
A temporary step forward
That’s why our 10kg bags are, for now, made of plastic again – but of a 100% recyclable mono-PE film. Our smaller bags remain available in PFAS-free paper packaging.
This choice may feel like a step back. But it’s a necessary in-between step to ensure quality, while we continue to work toward a better long-term solution.
We keep moving
The 10kg paper bag is still our goal. Together with our packaging partners, we continue to test, improve and develop. Because being a pioneer doesn’t mean being perfect – it means staying committed to doing better, every day.
For your pet’s health and the planet’s future.
