On the way to do better

For your pet’s health and the future of our planet. At Yarrah, we believe that every step counts. That every conscious choice makes an impact. And that sustainability doesn’t stop at organic farming.

Still, we also know: 100% eco-friendly doesn’t exist. Anyone who consumes leaves a footprint. What we can do, is reduce that footprint – a little more every day.

That’s why you’ll find an honest overview on this page of the steps we’re taking. What we’re proud of, but also things we’re still working on and want to improve. Open and transparent, just as you can expect from us.

Paper packaging: a step forward – with bumps along the way

For us, sustainability goes beyond just the food. That’s why, since 2025, we’ve been using paper dry food packaging – a choice that fits our mission to use less plastic.

Why this step? Because paper packaging has a lower environmental impact than plastic. In Europe, 83% of paper and cardboard is recycled, compared to only 40% of plastic (Eurostat, 2021). And if paper doesn’t get recycled, it won’t end up as microplastics in the environment.

Our ambition? A 100% paper bag, without plastic or PLA lining, made from PFAS-free, FSC-certified paper. But the market isn’t ready for that yet. That’s why we started in early 2025 with a paper bag with a removable plastic inner lining. That way, we could already get started and continue to optimise.

The first results? Positive – for the small packages. With the new packaging, we save around 42,000 kilos of plastic annually. But it wasn’t without challenge. Especially the large 10 kg dry food bags turned out to be fragile. Too many tears, too much loss. That frustrated us, but also you as a consumer. That’s why in August 2025, we temporarily switched those variants back to 100% recyclable plastic – reluctantly, but with the end goal in mind. In the meantime, we’re not standing still and are looking for a better solution. One that is sustainable, safe and allows us to guarantee quality. To be continued!

Less beef, fewer emissions

Together with ClimatePartner, we identified in 2022 what contributes most to the CO₂ emissions of our food. What did we find? Beef is responsible for no less than 52% of emissions, while it only represents 10% of our total ingredient volume.

That’s why one of our goals is to adjust the recipes with beef. A first example? Our Chewsticks. These will go from 79% beef and 7.6% chicken meal to 40% beef and 46% chicken in early 2026. That way we reduce the impact – without compromising on taste or nutritional value.

Step by step, we’re making our range more climate-friendly. And we’re hungry for more.

Vegan dog food: a conscious choice, made with care

Some people think vegan dog food is nonsense. We see it differently. For dogs with intolerances, or for owners who consciously want to feed plant-based, it’s a valuable alternative.

We were the first to introduce organic vegetarian and vegan options in 1995. Since then, we’ve been offering a complete range – from kibble to wet food and snacks. Fully balanced, with all essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals your dog needs. Like vitamin B12 and taurine. All based on organic soy: a highly digestible, high-quality protein source.

Of course: not every dog reacts the same. Are you considering switching? Talk to your vet. Health always comes first. But if it’s suitable? Then vegan food is a choice for fewer emissions, less animal suffering and a more animal-friendly future.

Our certifications: more than just a label

For us, choosing 100% organic, ingredients from verified origins and sustainable supply chains is self-evident. But we understand that, as a consumer, you want to be sure it’s real. That’s why we’re proud of the certifications that reinforce our promises.

From EU Organic to MSC: these certifications confirm that our products meet strict standards for environment, animal welfare and transparency. They show that the foundation of our food always goes a step beyond conventional pet food. No pesticides, no artificial additives – only pure, verified ingredients.

But we’re not there yet; we remain ambitious. For instance, we’re looking into how we can use more local ingredients to shorten our supply chain, and we keep a critical eye on ingredients with a high CO₂ impact.
